Clenching and grinding (bruxism) can cause irreversible damage to the teeth. Overtime, these and additional causes can create fractures in teeth or fillings, recession or flattened, worn teeth. If you’re experiencing TMJ (temporomandibular joint) pain or issues as a result of clenching or grinding, an occlusal guard or sleep appliance may help. There are different appliances, often worn at night to help distribute the force put on teeth to help save them from damage.
